Insurance is often an area which catches out most carpet cleaners. Many carpet cleaners focus on getting insurance cover for the lowest price. It often means they have the wrong cover or the cover they end up purchasing is inadequate.

The most common mistake is the belief that Public Liability insurance covers a carpet cleaning business for a mistake they make with the item they are cleaning... NOT SO!!!

For a professional carpet and upholstery cleaner, the cover required is Treatments Risk or Products Liability insurance (note that these policy descriptions are subject to the insurance provider and their definitions). Furthermore, the NCCA do not allow members, and the IICRC will not register companies which do not provide copies of the correct insurance on an annual basis.

It would be very astute of the consumer to insist on seeing this type of insurance from carpet and upholstery cleaners before they are allowed to touch their soft furnishings.
