Leather Re-Dying & Re-Pigmentation
Pigmented leathers are leathers which have had a "coat of paint" applied to them. This is akin to a steel car body panel being painted to give it is final colour. This means that if can be re-pigmented (or "re-painted"). Unlike a car body panel, when leather dries out too much it will crack, however the first indicator will probably be cracking in the pigment coat. The cracks in pigment can be repaired with re-pigmentation and the leather should be re-hydrated with a water based cleaning foam.
Some leathers are not painted, but are dyed. These dyes are called aniline dyes and the leather type has taken on this name. Now these leathers are incorrectly referred to as "aniline leathers". Aniline dyes can fade significantly in sunlight. These can be re-dyed.
VCRS "allclean" are able to carry out leather colour match and re-pigmentation work and aniline dye treatments.
