Dust-Mite Control
House dust mites are not in themselves the health problem in our homes even though they look frighteningly ugly when seen under a microscope. It's their faeces that are the problem!! Of course you won’t have one without the other. Dust mite faeces are classed as an allergen in their own right and, if we are unlucky to have them in our home (and most of will have them to some degree or other), each dust mite will produce about 20 droppings per day each of which can fragment into tiny respirable particles which will easily pass through the pores of a normal vacuum bag.
These microscopic creatures only live where there is a food source and where the moisture levels are right. That does not usually mean carpets. It does however usually mean the pillows, mattress and our bedding as well as our upholstered furniture. The main food source for a house dust mite is human skin cells which we shed in abundance in our homes and when you consider that the average human adult deposits a half litre of moisture when asleep, we see that our beds are an excellent environment for dust mites to thrive.
Dust mite droppings are full of the enzymes they secrete in their digestion of our skin cells and they are so small that when they are sent up into the air (when we make our beds for example) that they may stay suspended in the air (in theory) indefinitely!! These respirable particles are also water soluble so when they get into our lungs they dissolve and as our lungs try to produce fluids to bring these particles up, these allergenic particles dissolve and work their way further down into our bronchial tubes thus potentially causing further irritation.
Our modern living environments, warm, humid, poorly ventilated homes are akin to us hermetically sealing ourselves in!! These are ideal conditions for house dust mites. It has little to do with whether or not you have carpets. It is not a major surprise that while we live longer in the modern age, we also suffer from more allergies and respiratory ailments.
Regular ventilation of bedrooms, regular vacuuming of beds and mattresses and periodic washing of pillows will help. If you do require chemical treatments, these basic methods should all be tried first before application of these treatments.
At VCRS "allclean" we are able to test for dust mite presence in your home and confirm or alleviate your concerns. If the results are positive, we can discuss a cleaning and ventilation regime which will reduce the population and eventually eliminate it.
For Dust Mite eradication and control we use the PROmite™ chemical treatment system.
